Fanzun convinces in study commission for the Untere Spichermatt residential development in Stans

The jury of the «Wohnüberbauung untere Spichermatt» study commission in Stans has named the GECO project as the winner. Led by studio sintzel architektur gmbh from Zurich, the planning team developed a design for around 280 flats that convinced the jury with its well-considered urban design solution and sustainable concept.

A strong planning team

Alongside Fanzun, the following partners contributed to the successful project: studio sintzel architektur gmbh (Zurich) as overall project lead, Uniola AG (Zurich) for landscape architecture, Bogenschütz AG (Basel) for HVAC and sanitary engineering, Enerpeak AG (Dübendorf) for electrical engineering, as well as Prof. Alexa Bodammer (Institute for Sociocultural Development, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts).

Fanzun contributed comprehensive expertise in structural engineering, building physics, and energy and sustainability. The close collaboration led to a holistic solution that optimally combines urban design, structural and ecological requirements.

Combining density with quality

The project for Logis Suisse AG responds to the challenge of high building density with an innovative strategy: rather than placing displacing volumes, outdoor spaces shape the building structure here. A seven-storey timber construction is organised into well-proportioned courtyards that provide orientation and create high-quality spaces to spend time in.

The compact building structure with its orthogonal timber construction promises efficient construction and management. A sustainable energy concept is pursued through connection to the local district heating network, photovoltaic systems on the roof surfaces, and the use of recycled concrete.

A lively neighbourhood with identity

The urban design concept creates differentiated outdoor spaces, each with its own identity – from noise-protected courtyards in the east to street-facing commercial courtyards in the west. A central open space around the preserved existing building forms the heart of the development and strengthens the neighbourhood community.

The residential development thus combines building density with a high quality of life and sets new standards for sustainable living in Stans.
