St. Verena Minster, Bad Zurzach
Starting situation and idea
The parish owns very different kinds of property. A real-estate strategy for long-term financial planning was non-existent. Fanzun was appointed for to analyse the buildings and draw up a real-estate property and a suitable budget. The restoration of the St. Verena Minster was Fanzun’s first task in the role of a client-representative.
Approach
Following comprehensive assessment of the existing structure, Fanzun presented a restoration plan including a catalogue of measures and a cost estimate. The first phase was defined as the restoration of the interior viz. the crypt, altars and paintings. The works were flanked by monument conservation activities conducted by the canton.
Challenges
The preliminary planning for overall restoration was jointly undertaken with the cantonal conservation authorities. In addition to securing and conserving the historic material, the goal was also to retain and adapt the church to current needs and promote pilgrimage.
