The site stands out for its exposed and prominent location at the entrance to the village of Pontresina. Using the instrument of a neighbourhood/development plan, a tailor-made integration into the existing structure is to be achieved.
The base of the development is a podium storey with a direct connection to the roundabout on the cantonal road. This houses the underground car park as well as various commercial spaces. The polygonal residential and commercial buildings placed on top form a public square and a clearly defined street space, creating a new quality in the connection between the village centre and the railway station.
The prominent location of the 5,600m² site as a «gateway» to Pontresina calls for careful handling of the buildings‘ scale and grain. The development is intended to act as a pedestrian-scale link, connecting the station area with the village centre.
