Foundation stone ceremony at Eugen-Huber-Strasse 11 in Zurich-Altstetten

On 22 January 2026, the foundation stone ceremony took place for the residential development at Eugen-Huber-Strasse 11 in Zurich-Altstetten. The project marks a special moment for Fanzun: it is the first residential development that we are realising as general planner in Zurich.

The development consists of three apartment buildings with a total of 20 flats, connected by a shared underground car park. The foundation stone ceremony took place in the presence of the client, the Fokas family, the participating planning teams, companies, and the neighbourhood.

Sustainable living to MINERGIE-P-ECO standard

The architectural concept comprises three self-contained volumes, harmoniously embedded in a green setting. The facades are clad in re-used clinker brick – a material that not only creates a connection to local building tradition but also minimises embodied energy. The living areas face south-east and south-west respectively, and generous balconies create a direct connection to the surrounding nature.

The project is being realised to the MINERGIE-P-ECO standard. Heat is generated via ground-source heat pumps with a geothermal probe field, supplemented by photovoltaic systems on the flat roofs. In summer, geocooling via the ground probes enables energy-efficient temperature control of the flats. All flats have a controlled comfort ventilation system with heat recovery, which reduces ventilation heat loss while ensuring a constant supply of fresh air.

Varied housing mix for different needs

The three buildings offer a range of flat types: from 2.5-room flats to 3.5- and 4.5-room units, as well as generous maisonette flats with 4.5 and 5.5 rooms. Building C, located in a particularly quiet area, houses the largest units. All flats have outdoor space – whether a balcony, a terrace or a private garden area.

Access to the flats is via central cores with a staircase and a disability-friendly lift. The shared underground car park offers 16 parking spaces to comfort level A and is already equipped with connections for electric vehicle charging stations. The two bicycle rooms in the basement provide a total of 65 parking spaces.

High-quality outdoor space design

Landscape architecture plays a central role in the overall concept. A curved gravel path connects the individual areas and leads to tree-shaded seating areas, barbecue spots and play equipment in the central core of the development. These shared spaces are easily accessible to all residents. The southern areas around Building C are designed as quiet lawns.

Special attention was paid to the ground-floor flats: their privacy is ensured through targeted planting of shrubs and grasses. Along Eugen-Huber-Strasse, a front garden is being created in the tradition of Zurich residential buildings, crossed by concrete stepping slabs that provide access to the ground floor of Building A.

Interdisciplinary collaboration

As general planner, Fanzun is responsible for overall project management, architecture, construction management, construction economics, structural engineering, fire protection, as well as building physics and acoustics. Other planners involved are G+T Ingenieure (HVAC and sanitary planning), Artho Elektroplanung (electrical engineer), Bütikofer Schaffrath (landscape architecture), Marti AG (building contractor), Toggenburger AG (civil engineering) sowie Klinker Spezialbau und Backstein Kontor (facade planning).

Construction started in May 2025, with occupancy planned for June 2027. With this project, we are contributing to a lively and sustainable residential neighbourhood in Zurich-Altstetten.
