Ground-breaking: start of construction works for Oblamatik’s Innovation and Technology Centre

At the end of 2016, high-tech enterprise Oblamatik based in Chur/Switzerland announced the construction of an Innovation and Technology Centre. Based on the idea of an innovative think-tank, Fanzun developed a building over the last few months which is unmatched for workplace quality and energy efficiency in the region. The new building will have four instead of three floors as originally planned. The change reflects Oblamatik’s expansion strategy in the face of high demand. The company will accommodate more than 100 employees in its new headquarters. Construction began on 11 September following a ground-breaking ceremony. The building is planned to be inaugurated in spring 2019.

The most modern workplaces in the Grisons

Innovation is the driving force for Oblamatik. The company develops proprietary and innovative sensor technology and is a world leader in drinking water management. The company’s new offices will feature ergonomic workplaces as well as high-end technical labs, seminar rooms, showrooms, meeting rooms as well as other areas which will optimally support knowledge and idea transfer within teams, for instance, the open atrium to serve as a think tank and other specially designed open spaces. Workplace quality in the building will be unmatched in the Grisons. Facilities for the Oblamatik’s employees will include a library, an in-house fitness studio, restaurant with a café/lounge and an open terrace facing the Calanda.

New standards in energy efficiency

Compliant with the Minergie-P standard, the building needs very little external energy thanks to a highly efficient heat insulation. Energy for the building is mainly obtained from heat emitted within the building and solar power from the roof. A solar plant with hybrid elements supplies energy for hot water and heating as well as air-conditioning to cool the building in summer. The building uses the so-called free cooling principle which reduces the energy needed for cooling by 80 per cent. Building components double as long-term storage elements for cooling and heating. The office ceilings as well as the floor of the second underground floor is an “active” element which can release and absorb heat to and from the underground. Hybrid ceilings cool and heat the offices. They also incorporate lighting elements and optimise the acoustics in the offices.
