Randolins Hotel & Hostel Backpackers, St. Moritz

Starting situation and idea

In September 2012, Fanzun won the competition for the renovation of the rooms in the Chesa Albana for the «Randolins Hotel & Hostel Backpackers». By December 2012, these rooms had been converted, and the 2012/2013 winter season was able to start in the new setting. Fanzun also went on to develop a concept for the overall facility.

Approach

The guiding idea is a gradual transformation based on a consistent design language for both fittings and buildings. The guiding motif, Randolins (swallow), becomes the hotel’s new logo. The food and beverage area is being optimised operationally, and the spa area enlarged. The energy concept provides for a consistent switch to renewable energy sources.

Challenges

The «Randolins Hotel & Hostel Backpackers» in the Suvretta area of St. Moritz consists of six very heterogeneous buildings, classified between one and three stars. The site occupies a prime location in St. Moritz, meaning that an upgrade of the offering’s positioning and visual identity, alongside the optimisation of operational processes, is now needed.
