The Alpina Mountain Resort & Spa, Tschiertschen

Starting situation and idea

Christian Hold from Arosa built the hotel in 1897, offering around 40 beds and in 1913, expanded it to 60 beds by adding a north wing. Responding to regular guests visiting Tschiertschen and the potential offered by the hotel, Malaysian entrepreneur Ah Khing Teo acquired the property in April 2013 and appointed Fanzun AG to restore and extend the hotel.

A master plan was drawn up to establish the commercial viability and long-term development of the hotel. An ensemble of existing buildings and two additional affiliated buildings were integrated into a single harmonic unit. The charm of historic elements was used and supplemented with a combination of contemporary design and traditional materials.

The client set a very narrow timeframe to complete the project. The agreed costs were to be upheld without any room for deviation. Aside from conserving the historic building, fire protection regulations had to be met. Site development was challenging.
