Foundation stone laid for the new Campus MITTE1|2 building at University Hospital Zurich

Yesterday, an important milestone in the history of University Hospital Zurich was celebrated: the foundation stone laying for the new Campus MITTE1|2 building. In a festive setting and in the presence of Government Councillor Natalie Rickli, Government Councillor Ernst Stocker and around 200 invited guests, this significant step towards the hospital of the future was marked. «Anyone walking through the corridors of the USZ today recognises the urgent need for renewal. With the new building and the renovation of existing buildings, spaces are being created that do justice to the USZ’s central importance as a university hospital for specialised and highly specialised medicine as well as for research – and that create tangible added value for the patients and employees of the USZ,» emphasises Government Councillor Natalie Rickli.

The project

The new building marks the first stage of the comprehensive structural renewal on the USZ core site East in the Zurich Centre university district and creates a hospital for highly specialised medicine with a focus on inpatient treatment. The new building will form the future main entrance of University Hospital Zurich and, in addition to the functional units for medical care, will also house all the support areas required for hospital operations. More about the project.

Fanzun’s contribution

As general planner together with Christ & Gantenbein, we are responsible, in a joint venture with Confirm AG, for overall management, cost planning and construction management. We also handle the management of the general planning team.

With yesterday’s foundation stone laying, the realisation of a project continues that, upon its completion in 2031, will make a decisive contribution to the future viability of healthcare in the region. The new building will be certified to SGNI Gold certification level, setting new standards in sustainability as well.

We are delighted to be part of the general planning team accompanying this forward-looking project, and to make an important contribution to healthcare in the Zurich region.
