Dankensberg Retirement and Care Home, Beinwil

Starting situation and idea

The Dankensberg Foundation operates a residential and nursing home across several buildings. Buildings A and B no longer meet today’s requirements and need to be replaced. Following a competition, the joint venture of architecture firm Fiechter & Salzmann and Fanzun won the commission.

Approach

Based on the client’s cost targets, it became clear that operating the kitchen, along with the necessary measures, was not feasible within the cost framework. For this reason, a temporary kitchen facility is being set up, and Building B is likewise being rebuilt entirely from scratch. This makes it possible to keep within the client’s cost target.

Challenges

Ongoing operations and access to the individual buildings proved to be demanding and critical. Maintaining the catering kitchen in the basement of Building B presented a further challenge. In addition, due to the insufficient load-bearing capacity of Building B, substantial structural measures are required.
