House 114, Florins

Starting situation and idea

The project involves the renovation and extension of one half of a historic Engadin house in the hamlet of Florins, located in Tarasp. The residential building was constructed in the 15th century and renovated in the second half of the 20th century.

Approach

The existing residential section was given an energy-efficient renovation, and the former stable annex was converted into living space using a timber «house within a house» system.

Challenges

The old Engadin house was to be transformed into a multi-generational holiday home. The idea was to handle the valuable building fabric as carefully as possible and to retain the building’s typology, at least from the outside.
