The Dolder Grand, built in 1899 as a former „Curhaus“, was redesigned by the renowned London architects Foster + Partners. All annex buildings added after 1899 were demolished. Two new wings, the Spa Wing and the Golf Wing, nestle against the fully restored main building, connecting the past with the future.
A networked project quality management system, geared to the client, the planning team and the realisation phase, covered quality, costs, schedules and change management. It was implemented at the interface between the client and the general management and jointly maintained by both parties. The extension was realised partly while the Dolder Grand remained in full operation. Before planning and implementation could begin, rezoning, the consolidation of parcels across various building zones, questions of internal and external site access, and questions relating to logistical connections all had to be discussed and resolved conceptually.
The planning and realisation of the project were carried out with individual specialist contractors. Managing dozens of contracts, together with a very heterogeneous client structure, called for comprehensive project management. The fact that seven different architects were involved in planning the project added considerably to its complexity.
